President Goodluck Jonathan has signed the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition)Act 2015 into law four days to the end of his Administration.
This stands as a follow-up to the May 4th 2015 gathering of the Senate when the bill was initially passed into law. The new Act totally prohibits female circumcision or genital mutilation, forceful ejection from home and widowhood practices.
The Act further Prohibits abandonment of Spouse,Children band other dependants without sustenance,battery and harmful traditional practices.
The new law became effective on Monday as confirmed by President Jonathan's Spokesman Dr. Reuben Abati in Abuja.
Nonetheless,a total of two bills were signed into law, The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition)Act 2015 and the Immigration Act 2015.
On reacting to the Presidents recent sporadic actions towards making some key social economic policies at a time when his administration has just about 3days to handover,Most Nigerians see his actions as deliberate though the reasons behind them yet unknown.
