Buhari Brags, Says His Recent Appointments Were Based On Merit

President Muhammadu Buhari finally replies critics who expressed dissatisfaction on his style of recent appointments saying that his appointments weren't against the Nigerian constitution
as he has the prerogative to make his choice appointments.

Mr Buhari spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Friday evening, on the hue and cry trailing his appointments from Thursday which is believed to favour the northern part of the country.

Describing the presidents recent appointments, a well renowned developmental economist, Katch Ononuju said the imbalance in the appointments distorts previous administration’s federal character arrangement, which was drawn from the pull of 100 percent educated Nigerians.

The South East on its own expressed outright neglect on the part of the presidency as the North seems more favoured in recent appointments.

Speaking on behalf of the presidency, Femi Adesina said the President was aware of federal character and expressed the belief that they would be balanced by the time he made more appointments in September.

In same report by POST-NIGERIA, the presidents spokesman further said nobody can fault the fact that those named so far ‎were appointed on merits.

He assured all stakeholders that the President would keep to his promise of appointing the remaining aides and Ministers ‎in September.

“Nobody can fault the fact that the persons appointed were appointed on merits.

“In terms of the spread, the President has prerogative to appoint and he knows there is federal character. I am sure that there will be balance in the future. These are still early days. At the end of the day, we will have a balance.

“By the time more appointments are made, it will balance out. The President is trying to get the very best of Nigerians. The issue of key positions and no key positions should not be the issue.

“He gave a deadline of September for the appointment of Ministers ‎and he will keep to it.”

The watch now lies on the new appointment date as according to Mr Buhari, the recent appointments were made on merit and nobody can fault it.
