The incumbent president of Nigeria,President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan today took his campaign train to owerri,Imo State under the umbrella of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Just as it used to be,the president was welcomed and cheered by a great crowd of Imolites right at the popular Dan Anyanwu stadium at the heartland city.
The PDP has for over the last 16 years produced its candidate to occupy the Nigerian presidency seat inspite of how tough the opposition and internal politiking.
For Imo State, the game for the 2015 February general election seems tougher by the day and perharps the need for the presidents visit.
Just as the power struggle for the presidential seat between the PDP and its close opposition (the APC),the PDP is yet to clear the air on who actually is its governorship candidate in Imo state. The state had witness and still experiencing series of street rallies between fans of the so called governorship canditates of the PDP. The states PDP earlier produced 3 governorship candidates, former Imo state governor Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Ararume and Ihedioha.
Currently, the limelight is shun around Senator Ararume and Ihedioha both of the PDP and the game is still on as its not over until its over. Nonetheless, inspite of the rallies, the incumbent governor Rochas Okorocha seems undistracted and filled with all assurance of him being re-elected for a second tenure as its obvious that an house that is divided against itself cannot stand.
Though being a Governor,Rochas Okorochas ambition as a Nigerian president isnt hidden, as this was expressed when he gave the Igbos an even representation as a presidential candidate few months ago during the primaries still under the umbrella of the APC, though he lost.
These years general election is everybodys dream election as Nigerians seems well educated, informed and desirious of voting their choice of president. The gospel for "CHANGE" as preached by the APC and its presidential candidate Gen. Buhari seems to have changed Nigerians perspective of franchising as even the market women sings his praise. The question remains "what are the chances that president Goodluck Jonathan wil be re-elected for a second tenure?"
On his part, President Goodluck Jonathan is leaving no stone unturned notwithstanding the unstable condition of the nation, the devalued naira, the daily dwindling oil prices, the incessant deaths and killings by the Boko Haram terror group and the rantings and chantings for the February 2015 general elections.
President Goodluck Jonathans visit to Imo State today is timely but prayers still remains if it yeilds the desired result during and after the general elections.
