Owerri, the capital city of Imo State yesterday witnessed heavy tension and attacks arising from the demolition of illegal structures by ENTRACO, the state governments environmental agency along doughlas road.
Meanwhile, the demolitions were mandated by the State government after giving due notice and deadline to the traders of the well known Ekeonuwa market
and environs but the traders union were said to have insisted that the governor must demolish Amahausa first which is also along the busy road before their business spots.
The uproar became intense when the Imo State Governor instructed the demolition of some supposed illegal structures Said to be owned by the igbolites while those of their Hausa counterparts were left untouched arising into attacks on stores owned by the hausas by the igbo youths putting hold on business activities as banks and other offices had to immediately shut down operations
Nonetheless,the situation seems calmed as at the time of this report after swift actions were taken by the deployed police men by the State government.
