Lagos state police command on Thursday arrested three suspected human traffickers after failed attempts to take two stolen new born babies out of the country
According to reports the babies still had their umbilical cords on them as at when they were rescued aboard a flight to Mali.
The arrested suspects were identified as Hillary Wafo, 43, Kadijatu Dialo Diawara, 39 and Yakari Dialo Diawara, 41 were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos.
Kadijatu, the major suspects was discovered to been in a 20 year old marriage without a child before she arrived Nigeria on 14 November 2015.
On further questioning by the Lagos State police the suspects claimed they were from Okitikpupa in Ondo State where one of them, Kadijatu, who said she had been married for 20 years, claimed she gave birth to the babies. The police officers claimed they sensed foul play warranting immediate arrest when despite continuous cries of the babies, the suspects refused breastfeeding them. Nonetheless to further prove the situation,the port health officials examined the babies and buttressed the fact that the suspects were not their biological mothers
The Airport police officials assured the safety of the rescued babies as they were, however, kept in police custody before they were taken to Juvenile Centre, Alakara, Lagos, to ensure they were given adequate care while alarming the Lagos state Ministry of Youth Development.
