Tragedy in Kuje Abuja as High Tension Wire Kills Pregnant Woman And Son

Voices and lamentations was the order of the day when in a bid to celebrate Sallah on Saturday 4th 2014, an electrical cable fell and killed a pregnant woman and her son.
Little did Mr. ikechukwu Okolike know at the early hours of yesterday that in a matter of hours he will loose his pregnant wife and son. His wife who was heavily pregnant and her son "Bright", had locked the house to get some things for the family when the high tension cable amidst the light rainfall fell and got hold of her son.
In an attempt to rescue her son, ( Bright ), Mrs . Ikechukwu also paid the supreme price. All in a twinkling of an eye, two lifeless corpes were on the ground for everyone in the area to behold. These drew the attention of sympathisers and security personell amidst the corpes.
According to the husband of the Deceased ( Mr. Ikechukwu ) , his wife was heavily pregnant and expected to deliver this month ( October ). Residents in the area blamed the tragedic incidence on the electricity providers as majority of the wires used were said to be partly joined and inferior.
The Abuja electricity distribution company testified to the fact that they had been warning people in the area to stay clear of the high tension electricity poles and cables even when there is no light.
A closer look at the nation in a whole revealed that high tension cables are most times stationed close to residential buildings especially in the rural areas by electricity providers not considering possible dangers posed in return. Most times, in a bid to cut corners and or cost, avoiding proper space negotiation and compensation due, electricity providers place these cables anywhere they deem fit even right on top of a roof with same claim that people had been warned to stay clear of the area.
My dear Government, stable electricity is the dream of EVERY Nigerian, BUT shall we continue to loose life just in a bid to get a common social amenity?
" Obviously, the answer is "NO ! "
Government throught its established electricity regulating Agency needs to enact policies that would guide electricity companies on proper mapping of High tension cables / poles more far from human residence as this cables posses a lot of risk to humanity
